SARDINIA & CORSICA FLOTILLA 2026: WORLD-CLASS SAILING WITH THE NAUTILUS TRIBE!

Some places are beautiful. Others make you a better sailor.

Sardinia and Corsica somehow manage to do both.

In May 2026, five yachts with Nautilus alumni departed Olbia to explore what many sailors consider the finest cruising grounds in the Mediterranean. Four catamarans and one monohull carried certified alumni through turquoise waters, granite island chains, medieval harbors, and exhilarating passages, as they learn to sail Mediterranean, in Italy and France.

It wasn’t simply another sailing vacation.

It was another step in becoming more capable, confident sailors.

Because at Nautilus, the course is only the beginning.

Why Sail Sardinia & Corsica?

Few places combine spectacular scenery with truly world-class sailing.

Over one intense week, our fleet explored:

  • The crystal-clear waters of the La Maddalena National Park
  • The legendary Strait of Bonifacio
  • The glamorous marina of Porto Cervo
  • The medieval fortress town of Bonifacio
  • The dramatic limestone cliffs of Tavolara Island

Approximately 110 nautical miles to learn to sail Mediterranean, linking these extraordinary destinations with countless opportunities to anchor, swim, snorkel, hike, and enjoy authentic Italian and Corsican cuisine.

Sailing That Builds Confidence

The Strait of Bonifacio is one of the most iconic sailing passages when you learn to sail Mediterranean.

As the prevailing winds funnel W to E between Sardinia and Corsica, conditions often produce exhilarating beam and broad reaches. During our crossing, the catamarans regularly reached double-digit speeds, making for friendly races between boats and unforgettable sailing.

This year, nature added another lesson.

Banks of dense fog rolled into the strait on our return, giving skippers the opportunity to practice radar navigation, enhanced lookout procedures, and prudent seamanship in reduced visibility.

That’s the Nautilus philosophy in action.

Confidence through competence.

We believe the fastest path to becoming a capable sailor is through hands-on experience in extraordinary places, supported by experienced instructors while remaining firmly at the helm of your own adventure.

Supported Independence: Learn to Sail then Flotilla!

One of the things that makes a Nautilus flotilla different is that you’re never simply following a lead boat.

You remain the skipper of your own yacht, making your own decisions, navigating your own passages, and enjoying the freedom that comes with independent cruising.

You learn to sail Mediterranean. But you’re never alone.

Surrounding you is a community of fellow Nautilus alumni: sailors at different stages of their journey who share knowledge, lend a hand when needed, celebrate each day’s adventures, and inspire one another to keep growing. Some participants have only recently completed their certifications. Others have logged thousands of cruising miles. Everyone brings something to the fleet, and everyone leaves having learned something new.

Leading this flotilla was longtime Nautilus instructor Vinny Mattiola, whose extensive experience sailing Sardinia and Corsica meant every morning’s skipper briefing included local weather insights, passage recommendations, anchoring advice, and the hidden gems that only years of local knowledge can provide.

Joining the fleet aboard a separate yacht was Nautilus Alumni Director and instructor Fede Bellone, ensuring experienced support was always close at hand throughout the voyage.

Together, Vinny and Fede provided:

  • Daily skipper briefings
  • Weather and passage planning
  • Technical and seamanship support
  • Safety oversight
  • Local knowledge and itinerary recommendations
  • Hands-off coaching that helps skippers become more capable and confident

Of course, boats have a way of reminding us they’re still boats.

Even aboard modern, meticulously maintained charter yachts, something occasionally needs attention – a windlass that hesitates, a sail that needs adjustment, an electrical gremlin, or a fouled line. Rather than becoming stressful interruptions, these moments become valuable learning opportunities. With experienced instructors nearby, technical issues are resolved quickly and safely while crews gain practical knowledge they’ll carry into future charters.

That’s the sweet spot of a Nautilus flotilla.

The independence of skippering your own yacht, as you learn to sail Mediterranean, combined with the confidence that comes from knowing experienced instructors – and an entire community of fellow sailors – are always nearby.

More Than Beautiful Destinations

Every sailor dreams of entering Bonifacio.

Passing beneath towering white limestone cliffs before turning into its narrow natural harbor is one of the great arrivals as you learn to sail Mediterranean. Evenings were spent wandering the medieval Genoese citadel, enjoying Corsican cafés, and sharing stories over dinner with fellow alumni.

Equally unforgettable were the days spent among the dazzling turquoise anchorages of the La Maddalena Archipelago – often called the “Seychelles of the Mediterranean.” Granite islands, secluded beaches, crystal-clear water, and unforgettable sunsets created the perfect backdrop for friendships that will last long after the flotilla ended.

Because the Nautilus experience isn’t just about the places we visit.

It’s about the people we share them with.

Your Sailing Journey Continues Here

All of the skippers joining this flotilla had completed their Nautilus certifications on live aboard courses, some only months earlier. Now they were confidently skippering yachts, through one of the world’s premier sailing destinations.

That transformation doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens by continuing to sail.

At Nautilus, we believe certification is only the first step. Our alumni community exists to help sailors continue building confidence through memorable adventures shared with like-minded people. Whether on flotillas, offshore passages, advanced courses, or sailing expeditions around the world, every experience develops greater competence, stronger judgment, and lifelong friendships.

That’s why Nautilus is more than a sailing school.

It’s the trusted gateway to a real sailing life.

From nervous beginner to confident skipper.

From certification to world-class adventures.

Become part of the tribe.

Live it. Learn it.
