Learn to Sail Catamarans
Catamarans are a blast! These large sailing vessels have numerous advantages over monohulls. They are incredibly spacious, very stable, faster than monohulls, easier to maneuver, can enter much shallower waters, and are just fun to sail. Catamarans can be chartered in cruising grounds around the world, and if you dream of learning to sail one, we can help.
We conduct week long live aboard courses on catamarans, which results in ASA 101, 103 and 104 certifications. In addition students receive ASA 114, Cruising Catamaran Certification. On our week long courses we focus on the differences of sailing a catamaran versus a monohull, and teach you the subtle nuances of sailing and operating these vessels more effectively.
Sailing a catamaran is similar in many ways to sailing a monohull, but there are definitely some key differences. One of the main differences is getting used to operating twin screws (one engine in each hull). This takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, twin screws allow for a huge amount of maneuverability. There are also subtle differences in sail trim, tacking, and gybing between a monohull and a catamaran, along with difference techniques for heavy weather sailing. We will cover all of these topics in depth during the course of the week.
We conduct our week long catamaran live aboard courses in various destinations around the world. These are the same exotic, and off the beaten track destinations where we teach our monohull courses. Click the links below to learn more about each of these stunning cruising destinations:
