Alumni Sailing Opportunities

Taking a course with Nautilus Sailing is just the first step. We love being able to provide our alumni with fantastic opportunities to gain more sailing experience, deepen their knowledge, and take their sailing to the next level.

Whether it’s coming back (at a discounted rate) for a refresher on a second live aboard course in a different destination, joining a Nautilus flotilla (where you captain a boat but have an instructor guiding you through the area), or gaining some blue water experience on a delivery or an offshore trip, we have some great ways for Nautilus alumni to take the next step. For 2017 we have some INCREDIBLE alumni trips, from trips to Cuba, a dive trip, a kiteboarding trip, and lots more…

Flotillas

A flotilla is a fantastic way to get some experience as a captain under your belt, once you’ve completed your ASA 101-104 certifications. Nautilus Sailing organizes multiple flotillas every year, in stunning destinations. We are able to secure a discounted rate on sailboats (since we book 6-8 vessels per flotilla). We then have an instructor who knows the cruising area well, who leads the flotilla. Each day we do an in depth briefing that covers the hazards, challenges, and must visit destinations along the way. We plan special activities for the whole fleet, and these events are a blast! Check out the highlights video from our 2015 flotilla in Croatia, to see what these trips are like:

For detailed information about each flotilla, please email us and we can send you a detailed itinerary, description of the boats available, and all pertinent information.

If you do not wish to charter your own vessel for the flotilla, we often have limited cabins available for folks traveling solo, on our lead flotilla book. Contact us for more details.

Offshore Sailing & Delivery Trips

The best way to gain offshore experience, with more challenging weather conditions and night watches, is to do a delivery or do an offshore trip. These trips are not for the faint of heart, as you can experience storms, sleepless nights, and difficult conditions. We occasionally have these unique opportunities available for out alumni.

Offshore Trips

Each spring we run some unique trips from La Paz to mainland Mexico on Journey, our Catalina 42. It’s an offshore trip of over 400 nautical miles, with night watches and multi day legs. We will have the chance to stop at the remote  Isabela Islands, called the “Galapagos” of Mexico. Also included in the itinerary are a couple of fun stops at fishing villages in mainland Mexico. These will be AMAZING trips! Check out the video footage above from one of the legs last year…
